Today's a work day, so no time to sew, but I thought I'd share an interesting article that was posted by one of my favorite blogs. It relates to some of the finds at Lengberg Castle in Austria, which I am fascinated by. I will probably write more about them at some point in the future. Anyway, check out the blog, here. Just found another neat article, which you can check out here.
I did some sewing today, but nothing historical yet. Today I made a couple of baby blankets for a friend, pictures below. However, on the historical front, I did some visual research and started planning a Viking/medieval hood for my friend Megan. I will be making her a complete Viking outfit, which I did some visual research for today as well. The hood is going to be a fairly generic medieval style hood, I made a concept sketch today and figured out some of the dimensions, I'll be drafting the pattern this week. (I need to get a new roll of craft paper for patterns!) The hood will be made from a medium weight wool in a warm, chocolate brown color, and it will be fully lined with a cranberry colored satin. The will complement Megan's hair and skin color nicely, and I think they'll coordinate well with the olive green that I plan to use for her dress. (Got to get her measurements before I get started on the dress, since the hood is less fitted I can use myself for sizing.) I'll go ahead and add a picture of the concept sketch on here as well (I'm not an artist, don't judge too harshly!).
It's a new year and hopefully one that will bring a lot of changes. I've been creating costumes, historical and otherwise for a few years now, but documenting and blogging about the process is new. One of my goals for this year is to procrastinate less and create more. The main focus of this blog will be on the historical fashions that I'm recreating, but I'll be throwing some other projects in here just for a little variety. A few things that I have planned for the coming months are Viking era garments for myself and a friend, a cosplay of Elsa from Disney's Frozen, and a collaboration project with my friend Kizzy Anel (check out her art page, here). The collaboration project will consist of me sewing a plain canvas dress, which she will paint.

Lady KateI've been participating in reenactments for 16 years, and sewing for about 4 or 5. I primarily focus on historical costuming, but I like to make all kinds of things. Archives
